Comment: My GGGG Grandparents Joseph Abraham and Elizabeth Horwood. Joseph born approx 1765 and died 7/2/1825 Mentmore. Had two sons (maybe more) Samuel Abraham who married Pheobe Varney and Robert Abraham who married Sarah Varney. Samuel and Pheobe are my GGG Grandparents who had six children all born in England. Sam & Pheobe migrated to Australia and we know three of the children came to Australia, Alfred (my line) Robert and Esther. Not sure if George, Eliza, and Matilda came out. Pheobe's parents were John Varney and Sarah Braine. That is all the information I have and would like to understand more about the Abrahams and Varneys. Could anyone help.

Comment: I am looking for information on the Osborn(e)/Matthews/Tooley/Price/Collins families in the Pitstone area. My Husband's great grandfather George William Osborn was born to Leah Osborn in June 1866 at Pitstone. I am trying to determine the name of his father. George moved to Australia where he married and raised a family. George's mother married George Tooley and had a family of 12. The couple ran the Duke of Wellington pub near the canal, but I have heard it has now closed down. I would like to hear more of the history of the pub and see any photos which could include our family. In return I can provide details of the family in Australia. Leah died at Hemel Hempstead at was buried at Cheddington. is there a website which shows pictures of headstones in the Pitstone area? Many thanks!

Comment: Ancestors William TAYLOR and Lydia Susannah WHEELER were publicans at the Catherine Wheel, High Street, Eton. Married in 1847, he died 1857. She continued to run the pub and then married Rowland Gray. William and 3 baby sons are buried at St John the Evangelist - info from Bucks MIs. I have not been to Eton and would appreciate any info about these two families and the Catherine Wheel (which presumably no longer exists).

Comment: Thank you for such a great site. I have enjoyed reading the History notes. workhouse etc., I am researching the Goodger family tree. I have Thomas Goodger born about 1740 married to Mary Church in St Laurence Chruch 1763. Also Thomas Goodger (next generation) born about 1775 Died 1851 married to Elizabeth Walker who died 1794 and then married Eleanor Rodgers in Whadden 1795. Can anyone help me with more details of the two men named Thomas and also their wives? Does the BGS charge a fee for research. Please advise and thank you.

Comment: Searching for the family of Robert Verney/Varney and Phyllis Cox. The first Verney/Varney family members to come to Australia were Robert Coster Verney and Hannah Matthews in 1874. Much is known of the Matthews line but little is traceable of the Verney and Coster families. They are known to be in Bucks for quite some years mostly living in Haddenham and Aylesbury. Would be most interested to hear from anyone with connections to this group.
